AIAP Joins SPIS-4-FNS Project Field Assessment Across Laikipia, Meru, and Isiolo Counties
AIAP recently participated in a collaborative field visit across Laikipia, Meru, and Isiolo counties as part of the German-funded SPIS-4-FNS project, working alongside project partners JKUATES, MKEWP, and ZALF.

George, a Meru based farmer testifying about the solar powered irrigation to fellow farmers during a session.
The visit focused on evaluating the performance and impact of solar-powered irrigation systems installed under the initiative. In Laikipia, the team examined how solar irrigation is contributing to agricultural resilience and supporting mixed farming systems. In Meru, assessments centered on improvements in irrigation reliability and farm productivity for local smallholders. In Isiolo, the review highlighted the role of solar technology in enhancing water access and food security in arid regions.
As part of the technical team, AIAP contributed to system performance checks, farmer engagement, and on-site data collection—all vital to the project’s goal of promoting sustainable, solar-powered irrigation. The hands-on assessment supports ongoing refinements and effective implementation of the SPIS-4-FNS initiative, reinforcing the importance of partnership in advancing food and nutrition security through renewable energy.
This field visit underscores AIAP’s role within a collaborative effort to bring innovative and sustainable agricultural solutions to farming communities across Kenya.
